MDAccess - Multi Dimensional Database Access
MDAccess is a Charting and Reporting program that displays data from MDA (Multi-Dimensional Access/Sql Server) Databases, and is essentially a wrapper and interface to the MDA Databases.
It provides easy Access and Manipulation of that data, displaying selected subsets of that data in Chart or Spreadsheet Report form.
MDA Databases are a type of OLAP Database, which are discussed in this Wikipedia web site:
OLAP Databases
MDA Databases can be Constructed by any of the following software programs:
- MDAccess
- ETR
- PointMan Reporter
The Source Data to build the MDA Databases can come from any of the following types of data sources:
- Access databases
- Excel Spreadsheets
- Oracle databases
- Sql Server databases
The Source Data can be any query or spreadsheet of data about any subject so long as there are columns with character data that can be used to represent the dimensions, and column(s) with numeric data to represent the measure values.
After the MDA Database is built from the Source Data, it's ready for display in MDAccess. Within MDAccess subsets of data can easily be selected and rotated by the different Dimensions to display those subsets
of data in various Orientations, Plot Types, or Calculations. Data can also be downloaded to Excel for further Display and Examination.

MDA Database Construction
MDA (Multi-Dimensional) Access/Sql Server databases can be constructed from simple Excel spreadsheets that have at a minimum three columns, one of which is numeric and two are alphanumeric. They can
also be built from data queried from a Sql database that results in multiple columns with at least
two character columns to represent dimensions, and at lease one numeric column
to represent a measure value. The option to build these databases is available in MDAccess under the 'Database' menu item.

How to Build an MDA Database from within MDAccess
Once the MDA database is constructed, the data can be viewed and utilized by MDAccess.
Features offered by MDAccess include...
- Flexible Element Selector
    - allows for easy manipulation of available database elements with various searching,
sorting, sub setting capabilities.
- Seamless Plot Type Conversion
    - allows for easy change of one plot type to another.
- Easy Axis Rotation
    - allows for easy data view alteration.
- Calculations
    - allows for minor algebraic calculations including subtotaling of elements by attributes or individual selections, which combined with the
MDA Database export function, allow for easy access to pre-calculated values.
- Change History
    - allows for easy Undo and Redo of alterations.
- Multiple Document Forms
    - allows for multiple forms showing multiple plots from multiple databases.
- Multiple Plots per Form
    - allows for multiple plots to be displayed in same form.
- Multi-Page Plots
    - allows for easy arrangement of multiple pages of plots within a plot.
- Plot and Plot Section Positioning as well as Plot and Plot Section Drag and Drop
- Easy Plot Form Definiton Save and Restore
- Excel Export Functionality
    - provides for easy export of data to Excel.
- Editable MDA Databases by Access or Sql Server Management Studio
- MDA Database Builds from External Data
    - allows data in Excel, Oracle, Sql Server, or Access databases to be used as input to build MDA Databases.
- MDA Database Builds from Existing MDA Databases
    - allows data to be subset or add Elements to MDA Databases.
- MDA Database Direct Editing
    - to build MDA Databases from Scratch or alter existing MDA Database Values.
- Context Sensitive Help
- Print Preview
- Annotations
    - easily positioned and arranged.
- Annotations with Background Pictures
- Pictures
    - easily added and positioned.

plus many more...
New features for Current Version (Limited and Release)
A Free Limited Version is now being offered.
The Limited Version does not have a time expiration restriction as the Trial Version had.
The Limited Version is limited in:
- The size of the External Data Source the MDA Database can be built from
- The size of the MDA Database it call build
- The size of the MDA Database it can read
The Limited Version limitations are:
- A Maximum of 3000 External Data Source Rows can be read to build an MDA Database
- A Maximum of 200 Elements in an MDA Database Dimension
- A Maximum of 300 Total Elements on All MDA Database Dimensions
To Build and Read databases of unlimited sizes, the Release Version is required.

MDAccess 2.6.8 Limited Version
MDAccess requires the 'Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile' (or '.Net Framework 4').
The Framework may already be installed on your computer.
The install program will inform you if the Framework is not already on your computer.

Test Data Available for Download
Additionally, available for download is the link below, which is a .zip file containing test input
data for MDAccess and ETR.
The test MDA databases can be read in either the Limited Version or the Release Version of MDAccess.
These files are Example data files to show how an MDA database can be created from data you may have in an Excel file or a Sql database.
